Forgotten Stories Bloodwire Build: Rapier Void Guide

The Forgotten Stories Bloodwire build turns Rapier crits into a lasting Bleed threat. Bloodwire doubles the Bleed damage cap from 6 to 12, but Bloodwired Tome cuts both outgoing and incoming healing. Follow the boss unlock route, fit the build into 35 affinity points, and know when direct Rapier damage is the better choice.

Combat Identity of the Forgotten Stories Bloodwire Build

Start with Puncture crits to apply Bleed, then cast Bloodwire to stop those stacks decaying and double their damage. This Forgotten Stories Bloodwire build keeps the Rapier as its physical weapon and adds Bloodwired Tome for longer fights against enemies that can bleed.

Wielding this setup requires careful management of significant combat tradeoffs:

  • Substantial Healing Penalties: Bloodwired Tome imposes a -30% Outgoing Healing and -30% Incoming Healing penalty, along with -5 Max Health and -20% Order Resistance. Both the healing you receive and the healing you cast are substantially weakened by these attributes, so you cannot rely on quick recovery after taking unmitigated damage.
  • Spell vs. Status Distinction: Casting the Bloodwire spell deals direct Void and Slash damage while applying 3 stacks of the Bloodwired status effect (4 stacks on a critical cast). The Bloodwired status effect doubles incoming Bleed damage on the target, stops Bleed stacks from decaying naturally, and expands the target's Bleed damage cap from 6 up to 12 damage per turn (it does not guarantee an automatic 12 damage unless sufficient bleed stacks and health percentages are present).
  • Not a Lifesteal Setup: Bloodwire must be clearly distinguished from Vampire's Bloodthirst or Abigail's Diary Killthirst. This build possesses no built-in passive sustain or lifesteal. Survival depends on active defensive QTE execution, managing your health pool, and decisive turn choices.

Attribute Budgets and Affinity Management

Developing the Forgotten Stories Bloodwire build requires tight affinity management. In an unwritten state, the build consumes your entire 35-point affinity budget. Writing your books in the lobby frees up valuable attribute space for greater flexibility. Characters cannot be respec'd mid-run; once training goals are met, lock your stats to avoid over-investing.

First-Run (Unwritten) 15 10 10 0 Points Free (Cap Reached)
Already Written 12 7 7 9 Points Free

Book Title In-Run SIGN Cost Lobby WRITE Cost Unlock Objectives
Bloodwired Tome 150 Ink 300 Ink Shards Defeat Carcass and Defeat Carnage
Hidden Blade 50 Ink 100 Ink Shards Counter 5 times
Total Investment 200 Ink 400 Ink Shards Objectives bypassed once written

For your independent 30-point core pool, aim for 10 Physique and 20 Runesight. Physique provides baseline health, physical damage, and stamina to keep your melee strikes active. Reaching 20 Runesight increases elemental damage, grants +4 Max Mana, and supplies +2 extra rune slots. Bloodwire requires 6 runes to cast; always check your active rune slots in the character UI to see whether you need additional slot items. These numbers are suggested training targets to support your combat flow, not Book unlock requirements.

The Gustwalker Path and the 39-Point Threshold

Many duelists look to expand the Forgotten Stories Bloodwire build by incorporating Unstoppable Wind to gain the Gustwalker spell (+0.5 Speed, 15% larger dodge windows, -15% dodge cooldown). However, blending these books requires careful mathematical planning:

  • First-Run Cap: An unwritten Bloodwire setup requires Void 15, Order 10, and Light 10, using all 35 available affinity points. Adding unwritten Wind 10 would require 45 affinity points, which is impossible within the 35-point cap.
  • The Written Path (33 Points): Once all three books—Bloodwired Tome, Hidden Blade, and Unstoppable Wind—have been permanently written in the lobby, their requirements drop to Void 12, Order 7, Light 7, and Wind 7. Combining them requires exactly 33 points, fitting comfortably within your 35-point budget and leaving 2 points free.
  • The Mixed-State Trap (39 Points): If you attempt to add Unstoppable Wind while it remains unwritten, its requirements demand 10 Wind affinity and 10 Weapon Mastery. Because Light is your weapon attribute, your requirements become:

Void 12 + Order 7 + Light 10 + Wind 10 = 39 Points

This 39-point total exceeds the hard 35-point budget by 4 points. You cannot combine an unwritten Unstoppable Wind with a written Bloodwire setup. If all three books are not yet written in the lobby, your concrete combat fallback is to rely solely on your existing Rapier physical attacks and signed Hidden Blade counters, without training Wind in this run. Keep the Void and Order points you have already invested; meet the remaining boss and Book requirements with your current weapon.

Encounter Milestones and Book Inscription

Unlocking the core components of the Forgotten Stories Bloodwire build requires completing specific in-game objectives during your runs:

  1. Defeat Carcass and Carnage: The Bloodwired Tome requires defeating both Carcass and Carnage as separate boss encounters during an active run before it can be signed in its unwritten state. Both bosses can be encountered when raiding the graveyard at night, though finding them on your very first night raid is not guaranteed.
  2. SIGN Bloodwired Tome: Once the boss objectives and Void 15 / Order 10 targets are met, spend 150 Ink to SIGN it. If already written in the lobby, use Void 12 / Order 7 and skip the boss objectives. Confirm Bloodwire appears in your spell list.
  3. Execute 5 Actual Counters: Hidden Blade requires 5 completed Counter attacks. Obtain the Parrying Dagger (12 Silver), parry 5 melee strikes to build a Counter stack, and let an enemy complete a close-range attack to trigger the counter.
  4. Free Your Casting Hand: After completing your 5 counters and signing Hidden Blade for 50 Ink, unequip the Parrying Dagger before your next fight. Bloodwire requires an open left hand or magical catalyst, and holding an off-hand weapon blocks casting. Keep the Rapier equipped and add rune capacity through Books or armor.
  5. Confirm Rune Slots: Bloodwire requires 6 runes to cast. Check your UI for current rune capacity. If you are sitting at 5 slots, sign Strong Minded (50 Ink to sign, obtained by meditating at max Mana; occupies a book slot for +1 Max Runes) or equip a Vorant Mask (+1 Max Runes) to bridge the 1-slot gap. If your UI displays 4 slots, combining both provides the required +2 slots.
  6. Primary Weapon & Historian: Equip the Rapier for its +1 PEN, swift thrusts, and critical bleed application via Puncture. If playing as The Historian, use Quills at camp to enhance stat-granting books, keeping in mind the healing and health penalties imposed by Bloodwired Tome.
  7. Armor Checks: Check Armor pieces carefully for their defensive stats and speed penalties. Because Bloodwired Tome deducts 5 Max Health, choose armor that protects your character without dragging down your combat Speed. Equip a Chestplate when hunting Carnage to prevent limb severing.

Carcass
CarcassLook for it during nighttime graveyard raids; another raid may be needed.

Possesses 60 HP, resists Void (+15%), and is completely immune to Bleed, Deepwound, and Infection. Its Consume Life deals 2 + (Bleed * 2) damage to all bleeding players and restores 4 HP per consumed bleed stack to itself.

Carcass is immune to Bleed, so keep using direct Rapier damage. Cast Mend on a bleeding party member to remove 2 Bleed stacks and reduce what Consume Life can exploit.

Prepare Mend before entering the graveyard. Reap and Dancing Death add Bleed; watch your own stacks as well as the boss’s HP.

Carnage
CarnageLook for it during nighttime graveyard raids; another raid may be needed.

Features 80 HP, 5 Defense, and resists Void, Earth, Wind, and Water (+20%). Its signature attack Mutilate inflicts 22 damage and 5 Bleed, severing an arm unless a Chestplate is equipped to shatter instead.

Equip a Chestplate before combat so Mutilate shatters your armor rather than severing an arm. You still take damage. Keep attacking with your current weapon and watch the QTEs for Quick Slice and Rising Death.

Bring a Chestplate and enough health to survive damage. Mend can reduce the surviving target’s Bleed by 2; it cannot restore a severed arm.

  1. SIGN Bloodwired Tome after meeting this run’s requirements, then confirm Bloodwire is in your learned spell list. Written Books skip the first-time boss objectives.
  2. Match the complete rune pattern shown above; extra slots alone do not select the spell.
  3. Verify your character UI displays at least 6 active rune slots.
  4. Ensure you have adequate Mana to cast Bloodwire during your turn.
  5. Confirm your left hand is empty with no off-hand equipment blocking casting.

Gear Choices

Bloodwire requires 6 runes. Check your UI for active rune slots. Reaching 20 Runesight awards +2 slots. If your UI has 5 slots (1 short), bridge the gap with Strong Minded (+1 Max Runes) or Vorant Mask (+1 slot); if at 4 slots, combine both. Strong Minded uses a Book slot; Vorant Mask needs 4 Living Bark. Check that both fit your current equipment and Book capacity.

Compare Bloodwire’s regular and critical effects →

Piloting the Forgotten Stories Bloodwire build effectively requires balancing your stamina, mana, and the status conditions applied to your opponent:

  • Step 1 (Apply Initial Bleed): Engage your target with Rapier thrusts on your turn. Land critical hits using Puncture (2 Energy) to apply Bleed +2. Continue attacking with light strikes to establish an initial bleed pool on the enemy.
  • Step 2 (Apply Bloodwire): Cast Bloodwire (6 runes). This deals immediate Void and Slash damage while applying 3 stacks of the Bloodwired status effect (4 on a critical cast). The target's bleed decay halts immediately, incoming bleed damage ticks are doubled, and the bleed cap expands from 6 up to 12 damage per turn.
  • Step 3 (Press the Advantage): While the enemy is afflicted with Bloodwired, unleash Needle Flurry (6 Energy, 2-turn cooldown) to deal rapid physical damage. If the enemy retaliates with close-range melee strikes, Hidden Blade's passive will counter automatically during the enemy phase.
  • Step 4 (Conserve Mana): Avoid spamming Bloodwire if the target is already afflicted with Bloodwired and bleed stacks remain active. Save your Mana for refreshing the status when it expires. If your Mana runs low, select the Meditate action on a quiet turn to restore your pool rather than attempting spells you cannot afford.
Bleed Cap & Damage Amplification
Standard Bleed (Max 6 Dmg/Turn)6
Bloodwired Status (Max 12 Dmg/Turn)12

These numbers are damage caps, not a guaranteed amount on every turn.

Bloodwire deals immediate Void and Slash damage while applying the Bloodwired status. Under Bloodwired, enemy bleed stacks cannot decay naturally, incoming bleed damage is multiplied by 2x, and the maximum per-turn damage cap expands from 6 up to 12. It does not provide innate lifesteal, so sustain must come from active defense and deliberate healing.

Contingency Plans and Encounter Fallbacks

When encounters do not proceed smoothly, adapt your game plan using these guidelines:

  • If Boss Objectives Are Incomplete: If you have not yet defeated both Carcass and Carnage, Bloodwired Tome cannot be signed in an unwritten run. Fall back immediately to your existing Rapier and signed Hidden Blade, relying on direct physical thrusts, Needle Flurry, and reactive counters rather than assuming you have access to bloodwire mechanics.
  • If Facing Bleed-Immune Foes: Enemies like Carcass are completely immune to Bleed. Bloodwire still inflicts baseline Void and Slash damage on these targets, but its bleed-doubling properties will provide no extra value. If you already know Bloodwire, compare its direct damage with your available Rapier attacks; Carcass also has +15% Void resistance. During your first unlock attempt, keep using the weapon skills and spells you already know.
  • If Mana is Exhausted: When out of Mana, stop attempting to cast spells. The Rapier remains fully effective with standard physical attacks and stamina skills; maintain combat pressure with weapon skills, and use Meditate when a turn opens up to regain Mana.
  • Navigating the Healing Debuff: Bloodwired Tome applies a -30% penalty to both Outgoing and Incoming Healing attributes. Mend still reduces its target’s Bleed by 2 stacks, but its healed amount is reduced by your incoming healing modifier. Rely on crisp defensive QTE inputs (using Block against multi-stack debuff applications to shed a stack) to protect your health pool.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Forgotten Stories Bloodwire Build

Does this build feature built-in lifesteal?

No. The Forgotten Stories Bloodwire build relies on Void and Slash damage combined with the Bloodwired status effect, which doubles bleed damage caps and prevents decay. It does not possess innate lifesteal or passive health recovery. It is mechanically distinct from Vampire's Bloodthirst and Abigail's Diary Killthirst.

Why can't I combine unwritten Unstoppable Wind with written Bloodwire?

Unwritten Unstoppable Wind requires 10 Wind Affinity and 10 Weapon Mastery (Light 10). Combined with written Void 12 and Order 7, the total affinity cost reaches 39 points (Void 12 + Order 7 + Light 10 + Wind 10 = 39), which exceeds the hard 35-point budget by 4 points. You must write all three books in the lobby first, reducing the total cost to 33 points, before running them together.

How severe is the healing penalty from Bloodwired Tome?

Bloodwired Tome applies a -30% penalty to both Outgoing and Incoming Healing attributes, alongside -5 Max Health and -20% Order Resistance. This lowers incoming recovery from spells like Mend or party heals, requiring disciplined defensive QTE execution. Against unavoidable multi-stack debuffs, blocking can reduce the applied stacks by 1.

Does navigating to the Build Planner overwrite my setup?

No. Plain links to the Build Planner preserve your current draft. Loading specific presets is an explicit action performed via the preset buttons on the parent Builds overview page, which will replace your active inputs.

Final Tips for the Forgotten Stories Bloodwire Build

Get the 35-point Bloodwire route working before adding Wind. Once all three Books are written, the 33-point version gives you room for Gustwalker as well. In either version, check whether the target can bleed, watch Bloodwired’s remaining stacks, and save a recovery action before the healing penalty becomes a problem.
