Self-revive and reviving friends are planned features in the game FAQ.
Survive a mortal hit at 1 HP once per battle. It cannot revive a dead character.
The FAQ says you still receive Shards when leaving, dead or alive.
Because fallen adventurers cannot return, run survival depends on avoiding death entirely. Understanding Forgotten Stories revive limits means learning the strict difference between knocked down and dead states, knowing why Deepwound turns knockouts into instant death, and equipping survival gear that saves you before a lethal hit lands.
Forgotten Stories revive · Which state are you in?
Restore HP and treat dangerous conditions before the next hit.
Knocked and dead are different states. Deepwound kills you when knocked.
No current Forgotten Stories revive option brings a dead character back.
Can You Revive Yourself or Teammates in Forgotten Stories?
Revival is officially planned, but it is not available in the active game.
In the official Game Mechanics FAQ, the development team answers questions regarding self-resurrection or ally revival with a definitive "Planned, not now." There is currently no functional Forgotten Stories revive mechanic, item, or interaction prompt to bring back a character once death triggers.
Until an official Forgotten Stories revive feature arrives in an update, your party's priority must be proactive damage mitigation, swift debuff removal, and running defensive gear that keeps heroes standing.

What you should do in Forgotten Stories
This beginner video covers early-run priorities. Use it to prepare your next attempt; the revive answer and survival limits are explained here.
Forgotten Stories Death and Knocked States
Before looking for a recovery option, check whether the character is knocked or dead:
- Knocked State: Knocked and dead are distinct states. Do not treat a knocked character as proof that a dead character can be revived.
- The Deepwound Threat: A dangerous exception is Deepwound. If an adventurer suffers from Deepwound and gets knocked down, they bleed out and die instantly.
- Death State: Once an adventurer dies, they are permanently eliminated for the rest of that expedition. No spell or item currently available can return them to life.
Because Deepwound turns any knockdown into an instant fatality, clearing wounds before you drop is your primary safeguard against permanent death.
Clutch Survival Gear: Cheating Death and Fatal Bleed-Outs
While no Forgotten Stories revive ritual exists to undo death, specialized gear can prevent fatal blows from ending your run.
Survivability Gear Overview
| Item | Type / Cost | Key Passive Effect | Stat Bonuses | Obtainment |

| Emerald Ring | Accessory • Cost: 48 Silver |
Bleed-Out Prevention: Prevents you from gaining Deepwound when knocked down. | • Max Stamina: +1 • Incoming Healing: +5% • Outgoing Healing: +5% |

Forgotten Stories revive · Protection before death
A mortal hit leaves you at 1 HP, once per battle. Heal when you can act.
Stops you gaining Deepwound when knocked. Existing Deepwound still needs treatment.
Neither item provides a Forgotten Stories revive after death.
How Undying Heart Saves Your Run
The Undying Heart book can keep a fatal hit from ending your run. When an enemy lands a lethal strike that would otherwise knock or kill your character, Undying Heart triggers automatically. Your health drops to exactly 1 HP instead of zero.
It does not grant an immediate free action, but surviving the hit lets you heal when able—whether by drinking a potion on your next turn or receiving a heal from a teammate. This survival effect triggers only once per battle, so a Forgotten Stories revive plan cannot rely on it bringing back someone who has already died.
Understanding the Emerald Ring
The Emerald Ring is an important defensive accessory, but its protection has clear boundaries:
- What it does: It prevents you from gaining Deepwound when knocked down, ensuring a standard knockout does not automatically inflict a fatal bleed.
- What it does not do: It does not cure pre-existing wounds. If you already have Deepwound and take a knockdown blow, the ring will not save you—you bleed out and die immediately.
- No Revive Capability: The ring is purely preventative. It cannot serve as a Forgotten Stories revive tool once a hero dies.
What to Do Before a Knock Turns Fatal
Prioritize status triage whenever combat turns dangerous. Because Deepwound causes instant death upon knockdown, cleanse it immediately with a Sterilized Bandage or a critical cast of Cleansing Waters. The Emerald Ring prevents new wounds upon being knocked, but cannot purge an existing affliction. Staying ahead of these lethal interactions is essential in the absence of a Forgotten Stories revive option.

Shard Retention: Securing Progress After a Wipe
A failed run still leaves something you can use: your earned Ink Shards.
The official developer FAQ confirms that you retain all earned Ink Shards upon leaving, dead or alive. Although there is no Forgotten Stories revive option after death, those Shards can help you prepare your next character.
Use your banked Ink Shards in the lobby Library to WRITE essential survival books like Undying Heart for 150 Ink Shards. Once written, Undying Heart is available upon spawn on future runs. Spend 75 in-run Ink to SIGN it and gain its benefits.
Forgotten Stories Revive FAQ
Can you revive teammates in Forgotten Stories?
No. While a Forgotten Stories revive mechanic is officially planned by the developers, it is not currently implemented. Fallen party members remain dead for the rest of the expedition.
What happens if you get knocked down?
Knocked and dead are distinct states in combat. Deepwound causes death when you are knocked. Clear the condition before that happens; healing a living character is different from reviving a dead one.
Does the Emerald Ring prevent you from dying?
No. The Emerald Ring prevents you from gaining Deepwound when knocked down. It does not block lethal damage, nor does it protect a character who was already afflicted with Deepwound before dropping.
Is Undying Heart a revive in Forgotten Stories?
Undying Heart prevents death rather than reversing it; it is not a true Forgotten Stories revive mechanic. Once per battle, taking what would be a fatal hit leaves you at 1 HP instead of downing or killing your character, allowing you to survive the hit and heal when able.
Do you lose all your Ink Shards if your party dies?
No. All earned Ink Shards are retained whether you leave dead or alive, allowing you to unlock permanent book upgrades in the lobby Library between runs. Preparing your next run this way softens the blow of lacking a Forgotten Stories revive option.
